Volkswagen Presented ID. SPACE VIZZION Concept Car with the Perfect Aerodynamics

Volkswagen displayed its seventh concept car ID. SPACE VIZZION at Los Angeles Auto Show. Apart from being an electric car like many other ID models, the car will also have a fresh design and approach. One of the special features of the car is the front section with airflow openings, enabling a drag coefficient of 0.24. The car has a combination of Gran Turismo’s aerodynamic qualities and SUV’s interior space.

The new ID. SPACE VIZZION brings unrivaled flexibility, uncompromising quality, and GERMAN DESIGN to a new era of mobility,” says Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen Design.

The designers of the car have integrated airflow apertures at the front-end so that the air flows through a horizontal panel between the headlights and is directed to the rear over the extremely low-slung bonnet. There is also air flow into the outer areas of the front bumper, from where it is directed to the rear, too. The designers have also designed the airflow apertures on the bumper and the bonnet of the ID. SPACE VIZZION is such a way that they are also mistaken as the styling elements of the exterior of the car.

As per a global market research company Stratview Research, Aerodynamics is the third most effective technique for reducing emissions in the automotive industry after powertrain improvement and weight reduction. Active aerodynamics is the advanced aerodynamic technology, which selectively admits or restricts airflow based on real-time requirements and contributes towards the reduction in drag and thereby reducing emissions.

Stratview Research has stated in its published report that the global automotive active aerodynamics market is likely to grow at an impressive double-digit over the next five years to reach US$ 1,113.5 million in 2023.

The company has also made some other changes in the car too apart from highlighting its aerodynamics system. Apart from the compact dimensions and battery integrated floor of an electric car, the new AppleSkin material is used for the manufacturing of the interior. Also, no chrome is used, rather it is replaced by a chrome-like paint finish.

It is the first car to have AR head-up-display for all relevant driving information. There is a mini display, in place of the classic cockpit. This 15.6-inch touchscreen hovering in the mid-air will have all the online and other functions.

The car will be launched in Europe, China, and North America in different variations by the end of 2021.
