Schaefer’s New Harmonic Filter Modular System Perfect for Oil Platforms

This month, Schaefer has introduced its new PBAF 690-560 liquid cooled, high voltage and high current active harmonic filter, which said to be the perfect choice for oil platforms. It is also ideal for 600VAC power systems/grids, as well as wind turbine, automation and various other industrial applications where removing harmonics are proved to be critical.

This filter is said to protect a harmonic suppression independently of the number of loads and perfects the power element. A 140A AHF pluggable module (four per system) is equivalent to 560A per cabinet, and every filter module has a separate full control system.

The sequence tracks the current signal and makes up for the undesired elements of the measured current. System protection class meets IP65 rated, and safety and construction standards comply with EN 50178, IEC 62477-1, EN61800-3 (C2) and UL508. EMI according to EN 61000-6-4.

According to Stratview Research, the global harmonic filter market is projected to grow at a healthy rate over the next five years to reach an estimated value of US$ 1,059.1 million in 2023. Increasing use of power electronics that basically operates through electronic switching, increasing levels of harmonic distortions of voltage and current waveforms in power systems, increasing usage of variable frequency drives (VFDs), rising demand from the data centers and IT industries, increasing number of metal arc furnaces worldwide, increasing concern for potential damage from power frequency variations, and increasing use of sensitive electronics in industrial automation process are some of the factors burgeoning the growth of harmonic filters worldwide.
