Nexteer Earns Innovation Technology Award for its Innovative Steering Technologies

Nexteer Automotive has been recognized with the “Automotive Innovation Technology Award” at the 2019 International Automotive Congress for the innovative steering technologies including Quiet Wheel Steering and Stowable Steering Column of the company. This made Nexteer the winner for the second consecutive year after the company won the same award in 2018 for its High Availability Electric Power Steering (EPS).

We are honoured to be recognized by top experts from renowned research institutes and senior editors within the automotive industry for the second straight year for our innovative steering technologies,” said Robin Milavec, senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Strategy Officer, Nexteer Automotive. “Our global team is committed to relentless innovation, and our Quiet Wheel Steering and Stowable Steering Column technologies showcase how Nexteer’s steering solutions offer advanced safety and performance while re-imagining the ‘behind-the-wheel experience’ for future mobility.”

Quiet Wheel™ Steering allows the steering wheel to remain still during automated driving mode – even while the vehicle is in the process of turning. This eliminates potential distractions and hazards of a fast-rotating steering wheel in front of the driver during hands-off driving, enhancing safety and a sense of peace in the cabin.

Vehicles equipped with Quiet Wheel™ Steering may also be fitted with a Stowable Steering Column that retracts into the dashboard when automated driving is engaged, increasing available space for driver comfort and other activities.

Nexteer is making use of these innovative steering technologies to enhance the mobility future to enable a new era of performance and safety.

Recently, it has been noticed a rising demand for safety equipped vehicles. Advancement in steering wheel technology can be one of the ways to offer safety to the drivers.

In one of the upcoming reports of Stratview Research, it has been stated that the global automotive steering wheel market is projected to grow at a healthy CAGR of 4.7% CAGR to reach US$ 3.6 billion in 2022.
